Living it Up in London Town

Our host & guide is Emma John, a London-based travel writer, cricket journalist, memoirist, & entertainment reporter. She’s positively chuffed to explore the city with folks who share her love for Boone, NC.

As well as catching iconic London sights, we’ll enjoy Emma’s favorite parks, neighborhoods, markets, museums, cafes, and pubs. Chances are high that we’ll take a boat ride on the Thames or stroll along Regent’s Canal. Given Emma’s enduring connections with cricket, this very British of sports will most certainly make an appearance on our itinerary. We’ll also definitely get a bite to eat at Borough Market, and at least one evening will find us taking in a play at the Orange Tree Theater. On with the show!

Your Place in the City

After full days out and about, we’ll take it easy at a high-street pub hotel in Richmond, a lively and charming London neighborhood that also happens to be the setting of the enormously popular TV show, Ted Lasso.

Let’s talk British Sports

With our home-base in Richmond & Emma John’s expertise on British team sports, we’d be amiss not to talk about Ted Lasso. So, in the autumn of 2025, we’ll cue up a virtual chat about this cheery show and the broader world of British sports.

Double-Occupancy: $2,150 per person

Single-Occupancy: $2,750 per person

What’s Included?

  • 4 nights accommodation in London (May 30-June 3, 2026)

  • 4 days filled by Emma’s selection of London outings, including:

    • Visits to Emma’s favorite Parks, Museums, Neighborhoods, and Markets

    • Tickets to Emma’s Choice of Entertainments & Events — including at least one performance @ the Orange Tree Theater.

  • All Breakfasts & 2 Dinners

  • A Virtual Visit with Emma John about Ted Lasso & British Sports—autumn 2025, date TBD.

What’s Not Included?

  • Flight to/from England & Airport transfer to London

    • London Heathrow (LHR) is the recommended airport. Trains are readily available from the airport to Richmond Station, which is the meet-up point for the retreat. NOTE: If you are joining us on the Coastal England Retreat, transport is included back to London.

  • 4 lunches & 2 dinners

  • Required Travel Documents

    • Participants are responsible for procuring required travel documents.

    • NOTE: In addition to a passport, U.S. citizens will also need a U.K. issued Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA), which must be purchased online before arrival. The cost is around £16. See here for details & application.

The deposit is $600 if you are only joining the London Excursion.

If you are also joining us in Coastal England, there’s no additional deposit for London.
