Nyepi Retreat

Bali

March 6-16, 2027

there is no time in Bali quite like this time

This retreat is intentionally timed for experiencing the Balinese New Year, a.k.a. Nyepi.

Always coinciding with the New Moon, this is a time for completing rituals that acknowledge, appease, and neutralize cosmic forces of disorder. In other words—Nyepi makes way for a necessary reset.

Some of Nyepi’s most iconic preparations will practically greet you upon arrival, as numerous fantastical & monstrous Ogoh-Ogohs will be staged and ready for raucous village parades.

Ogoh-Ogoh styles are unique to each village and are made mostly or completely from natural elements like paper, bamboo, and cloth. Some are quite creepy and scary!‍ ‍They represent negative energy or malevolent forces of demons within our own being.

In addition to the huge Ogoh-Ogoh designed and created for an entire village, children also make them at schools and in their homes.

Ogoh-Ogoh parades are performed to clear negative energy & restore balance at the start of the New Year.

We’ll join in this memorable ritual alongside our Balinese friends—a group of stellar humans who will also be our local hosts and guides.

After a wild night with the Ogoh-Ogohs, a most remarkable thing happens.

THE ENTIRE ISLAND GOES SILENT

everyone stays home.

the airport closes.

lights are off.

markets are shut.

We’ll honor & embrace this sacred pause.

We’ll rest in the stillness.

We’ll hold space for quiet conversations and self-reflection.

We’ll gaze in awe at the extra-dark night sky — full of sparkling wondrous stars.

After this communal breath, we’ll join the island in welcoming a new day.

This is the way we will begin our time in Bali.
